Why is this website called "Out By 4"?
Because 4:00PM is the time of day we have to rescue an animal before the shelter starts putting them into gas chambers and killing them. They must have a rescue group or an adopter to get them "Out By 4"..Even if you come at 4:15 to save an animal it is too late...they must be OUT BY 4
In October 2008 we received an email from a volunteer of The Animal League of Gaston County, Dallas North Carolina asking for help to save two Chows that were going to be killed in a gas chamber in two days. One Chow was even blind and deaf. I was so horrified by that image that I spent the next two days and nights emailing and calling everyone and anyone I could to help rescue, sponsor or adopt these two dogs. I did finally get a Chow rescue to save them. But by then there were several more dogs and cats that came into the shelter. They were gassing 200 dogs and cats a week at just this one shelter!!
